Ever since Alexandrina launched the “Sweet Romania” November challenge and until this Saturday, I kept looking, I kept thinking… what to prepare… and by chance, while looking for something else, I came across these cakes that also contain horseradish .

RECIPE PREPARATION Pogacele with bacon and horseradish:

Heat the milk a little, add 1 teaspoon of sugar and add the crushed yeast. Cut the bacon into small pieces and fry it in a little olive oil. Put the rest of the ingredients (less cream) in a bowl (I use Tupperware), add the milk with the yeast and the fried bacon. Gradually adding the cream, knead until you get a homogeneous dough. Cover the pot and leave to rise for about 20-25 minutes. Remove the dough from the bowl, spread it and fold it in 2, then in 4, as in the jumari buns. After 20-30 minutes, spread it on the table powdered with flour, in a sheet about 1.5-2 cm thick. We cut the dough spread with a knife and then cut it into a square or round shape. We place them in a tray lined with baking paper. I placed them very close to each other, so that they grow upwards and not sideways. Grease them with a beaten egg and put them in the hot oven.

Place them very close to each other, forcing the dough to rise upwards and not sideways.

* Gather the dough left after cutting, spread it on a 1-finger thick sheet, draw lines with a knife and cut again. Repeat until all the dough is used.

Grease with lightly beaten egg yolk with 1 tablespoon of milk and sprinkle with cumin (optional).

Put in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes, at 180 degrees or until they are done and nicely browned.

Remove to a grill and allow to cool.

Serve warm or cold, plain or with a cup of tea or milk.
Being spicy, these appetizers go perfectly with a glass of beer.


Cookbook: Chicken with cream and horseradish

A chicken of about 1 kg, 1/2 kg of vegetable soup (carrots, parsley, celery, onion), 1-2 tablespoons finely grated horseradish (through a grater with small holes), 400-500 ml thick cream, fresh, a teaspoon of mustard, 1/2 teaspoon fine salt, finely chopped parsley.

The cleaned vegetables, cut into quarters, are boiled in a pot in 2 l of boiling water. Place the salad on a plate with a higher edge, level it, sprinkle with finely chopped parsley and keep cold for 1-2 hours. It is served as a first course.
