This woman claims that Chipotle violates the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act

Could this actually be a burrito in a bowl and filled with GMOs?

A California woman filed a lawsuit in a San Francisco federal court against Chipotle August 28, alleging that the burrito chain uses genetically modified ingredients.

Chipotle is the first national chain to virtually be GMO-free, but Colleen Gallagher claims they violated the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, according to Reuters.

Gallagher says that Chipotle’s labeling is misleading and incorrect, tricking customers into paying more for their burritos and burrito bowls. “As Chipotle told consumers it was 'G-M-Over it,' the opposite was true,” Gallagher told Reuters. “In fact, Chipotle's menu has never been at any time free of GMOs.”

A Chipotle spokesperson told Reuters that they “do plan to contest this.”

The frequently asked questions section on Chipotle’s website specifies that “It is important to understand that these protocols may not necessarily result in all of our foods being 100% GMO-free. Due to the potential for cross-contamination in fields, facilities or during shipping, it may be that trace amounts of GMOs are present in our food from time to time. For this reason, we identify our ingredients as ‘non-GMO’ rather than ‘GMO-free’ or other terminology that might be misunderstood as a guarantee of absolutely zero genetically engineered content.”

Allbirds Sues Steve Madden: ‘A Multibillion-Dollar Business Has Taken a Stab at Our Mission, & It Felt Wrong’

Sustainable-footwear brand Allbirds Inc. is taking fashion footwear maker Steven Madden Ltd. to court.

In a suit filed in the California Northern District Court on Tuesday, Allbirds accuses Steve Madden of copying the design of its signature wool lace-up sneaker — a product it debuted in 2015 — to create the Steven “women’s traveller sneakers,” which landed this year.

In its complaint — for trade dress infringement and unfair competition — Allbirds further alleges that in the summer of 2017, “a high-level executive for Steve Madden” contacted Allbirds and made inquiries about the brand.” Allbirds claims Madden knocked off its design shortly thereafter.

Direct-to-consumer brand Allbirds launched in 2014, and after gaining a cultlike following, the brand has opened physical outposts in California and New York. Despite offering just two styles for men and women, Allbirds is estimated to have raked in millions of dollars in sales in a short time.

“A multibillion-dollar business has taken a stab at our mission, and it felt wrong. It has the potential to hurt us, but more importantly, it has the potential to hurt the positive environmental impact we set out to achieve,” Allbirds co-founder Joey Zwillinger said in an emailed statement to Footwear News today. “As a Public Benefit Corporation and certified B-Corp, environmental conservation is written into our company charter to this end, we are donating any proceeds from the lawsuit to the Audubon Society.”

The nearly 30-year-old Steve Madden brand has been a Wall Street and consumer favorite for years, raking in revenues that have consistently blown past market forecasts. Still, the company continues to shoulder a bevy of lawsuits for trademark infringement, recently from Dr. Martens and luxury label Aquazzura.

Regarding the latest suit, a spokesperson for the Steve Madden brand said the company has no comment at this time.

Rapper Lil Loaded Dies at 20

Lil Loaded, the popular Dallas rapper behind tracks like “6locc 6a6y” and “Gang Unit,” has reportedly died at 20-years-old. Ashkan Mehryari, an attorney for the rapper whose real name is Dashawn Maurice Robertson, confirmed the news to XXL Monday afternoon, “Sadly, the rumors are true and Mr. Robertson did pass away today.” The cause of death was unclear. The news arrives months after Robertson was found guilty of fatally shooting his friend, 18-year-old Khalil Walker, last year. According to reporting by The Dallas Morning News, law enforcement was called to Roberton’s southwest Dallas home on October 25. By the time they arrived, Walker, who’d been shot in the torso with a rifle, had already been taken to a local hospital where he’d later die from his injuries. Robertson was arrested on one murder charge then indicted on a lesser charge, one count of manslaughter, in March. Mehryari held that Robertson and Walker were best friends and that the shooting was an accident. Lil Loaded found viral fame with 2019’s “6locc 6a6y.” The track’s accompanying video has garnered over 28 million YouTube views. His follow-up single, “Gang Unit,” was an even bigger hit with over 39 million YouTube views. In December of 2019, he released his debut project, “6locc 6a6y.” His most recent album, “CRIPTAPE” was released in December 2020. Read original story Rapper Lil Loaded Dies at 20 At TheWrap

The European islands most likely to turn 'green' next The latest rules on hotel stays Sign up to the Telegraph Travel newsletter A travel bubble between Australia and the UK could be on the horizon, according to the head of Qantas, with the Australian flag carrier still planning on being ready to fly long-haul at the end of 2021. Alan Joyce, the Qantas Group chief executive, told Nine’s Today show: “A few months ago, I thought maybe Singapore, Taiwan and Japan would be first cabs off the list but with the great progress that’s been made in the US and the UK, you may see those markets opening up before the rest because the vaccine rollout has been so successful in both countries.” He added that the Covid-19 vaccine is “our passport to get international travel going again” and said: “We’re still talking to the government about it, we’re still planning to be ready [to fly long-haul international] at the end of this calendar year.” Low uptake of the jab in Australia has led to Qantas offering incentives, including flight vouchers, to those who get vaccinated. The airline has previously said only vaccinated passengers will be allowed to board their planes. Earlier today an Australian court rejected a challenge to the federal government’s power that prevents most citizens from leaving the country.
