The method used to cook beef is dependent on the cut. Cuts that are more tender, like filet mignon, should be cooked for a relatively short amount of time over high heat by grilling or sautéing. While less tender cuts, like brisket and short ribs, should be cooked for a longer time with lower heat by braising or stewing.

Our Classic Beef Chili is already quick enough to make on a weeknight, but this slow-cooker recipe is even easier. Sautéing the beef and onion will definitely lead to more flavor. But if you want to just throw everything into the slow cooker at once, it'd be totally fine.

What kind of beef should I use?

While we prefer 80% (because fat=flavor) anything up to 90% lean will work.

Can I swap in chopped tomatoes for the crushed?

Absolutely! It'll taste the same, but you'll have more texture from chopped tomatoes.

What kind of spices should I use?

Tbh, anything your heart desires. We like a combo of chili powder, cumin, dried oregano, and paprika, but you can switch it up according to taste. F

Can I make this ahead of time?

Yes&mdashDO IT! This makes great leftovers throughout the week. Properly stored in an airtight container, the chili will last 4 to 5 days.

Best toppings?

In no particular order: Fritos (or your favorite chip), cheese, sour cream, green onions (or chives), bacon (😈), and jalapeños, preferably pickled. Did we miss any?

Crock Pot Chili

I love my chili because it’s saucy, hearty and full of flavor. Perfect to eat with a cheese bun! If we don’t eat it all, I’ll freeze what’s left in a container or even a Ziploc bag.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Ground Beef
  • 1 whole Onion, Chopped
  • 1 can (796 Ml Or 28 Fl. Oz. Can) Diced Tomatoes
  • 1 can Heinz Deep Browned Beans With Pork & Tomato Sauce (398 Ml / 14 Fl Oz)
  • 1 can (540 Ml Or 19 Fl. Oz. Can) Red Kidney Beans
  • 1 can ((284 Ml Or 10 Fl Oz. Can) Sliced Mushrooms
  • ½ cups Ketchup
  • 3 Tablespoons Chili Powder
  • 1 Tablespoon Brown Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • ½ teaspoons Pepper

Preparation

Brown ground beef in a fry pan with onions. Drain excess fat and liquid. Combine ground beef and onions with all remaining ingredients in large crock pot. Cook on High for 2 hours, then keep on Warm.

Add some flour if sauce needs thickening.

I was looking for a super easy recipe that wouldn’t take too long. I decided this one was perfect. I forgot the mushrooms and bought regular pork and beans as I couldn’t find the ones indicated. This was excellent!! I opted not to drain the meat, used a 90/10 ground beef and the chili was the perfect consistency. Would definitely make this again!

Crockpot chili recipe

Want to know how you can make a Crockpot chili recipe but are worried it maybe too difficult? In this recipe we'll show you an easy slow cooked chili.

Ingredients

  • 250 gram ground beef
  • 1 onion finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic finely chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper finely chopped
  • 1 can of plum tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato puree
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tbsp taco seasoning
  • 1 can kidney beans
  • 1/4 jalapeño pepper (optional)

Instructions

  1. Set Crockpot express to Brown/Sauté (note 1).
  2. Brown the ground beef without butter or oil. Then add the onion, bell pepper and garlic to the meat. If you like your chili spicy also add the jalapeño pepper. Sauté until soft and translucent
  3. Add the chili powder and taco seasoning. Stir through the ground beef meat mixture. Then add the plum tomatoes and break them up while stirring. Add the tomato puree to the pan
  4. Add are the kidney beans or brown beans. Give it one more stir before closing the lid. Set your slow cooker to either Low (6-8 hours) or High (4-5 hours)
  5. Serve and enjoy your Crockpot chili recipe.

Eat it up!

I really like chili straight with nothing added to it, but this chili also goes really well with a scoop of plain yogurt. I prefer to use yogurt over sour cream just because in my mind it tastes better in chili. Toss in a side of cornbread, add some shredded cheese if you like and I guarantee you'll make this chili concoction a bunch! This is a super simple chili recipe. As I stated earlier, I don't like to complicate things and I'm not exactly sure how long everything took to get ready, but I will say it was roughly a 2.5 beer recipe based on the cans of beer I enjoyed while making this late at night. Enjoy!


How to make slow cooker texas chili

Let’s get to the recipe! Here’s what you’ll need to make Homemade Texas Chili:

Ingredients for Texas Chili

  1. 1 pound ground beef —ground turkey works here too!
  2. 1 large onion, diced
  3. 2 green bell peppers, diced
  4. 1 (4 ounce) can diced green chili peppers
  5. 1 (15 ounce) can pinto beans, drained and rinsed
  6. 1 (14 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained
  7. 2 (8 ounce) cans tomato sauce
  8. 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
  9. 3 teaspoons minced garlic
  10. 1 Tablespoon cumin
  11. 2 Tablespoons chili powder
  12. 1 Tablespoon sugar
  13. 1 teaspoon salt
  14. 1 teaspoon ground pepper
  15. dash red pepper flakes, optional

In a large saucepan, brown ground beef and diced onion on medium heat. You’ll want to make sure your ground beef is completely cooked through for your slow cooker chili.

Pour your remaining ingredients into the slow cooker and stir until well combined. Be careful! Your slow cooker will be very full at this point.

Place your lid onto your slow cooker and cook on LOW for 4-6 hours or HIGH for 2-3 hours

Serve with shredded cheese, sour cream, green onions, and a bag of Fritos corn chips – or any of your other favorite toppings.


Crock Pot Chili - Easy Recipes For The Best Chili

If you haven't used your crock pot recently, its time to pull it out of the cupboard. Crock pots are perfect for those busy weeknights. Here are 3 different chili recipes for a chilly evening.

Mom's Favorite Chili

1 pound ground beef browned, drained

1 regular can tomato sauce

Mix all ingredients in crock pot. Cook on LOW for 3 to 4 hours.

Navajo Beef And Chile Stew

3 pound lean beef stew meat cut 3/4 " cubes

1 can ready-cut tomatoes with juice - (14 1/2 oz)

1 can diced green chiles - (7 oz) drained

1 can whole-kernel corn - (8 1/2 oz) undrained

1 teaspoons dried oregano leaves, crushed

1 teaspoon ground red pepper

2 tablespoon yellow cornmeal

Combine all ingredients, except cornmeal, in a slow cooker, mixing well. Cover and cook on LOW for 7 to 8 hours or until meat is tender.

20 Minutes before serving:

Turn control to HIGH. Stir in cornmeal. Cover and cook on HIGH 20 to 25 minutes.

No-Bean Chili

1 can stewed tomatoes - (16 oz) (optional)

2 tablespoon chili powder

1 teaspoon hot pepper sauce or more

Combine all ingredients in slow cooker. Cover and cook on LOW for 8 to 10 hours. (Add a can of your favorite beans if you wish, but then it wouldn't be No-Bean Chilli.)
