- 8 ounces whole-wheat linguine
- 1 16-ounce container chopped clams (thawed if frozen) or two 10-ounce cans whole baby clams
- 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, chopped
- ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 large tomato, chopped
- ¼ cup chopped fresh basil, plus more for garnish
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream or half-and-half
Bring a large saucepan of water to a boil. Add pasta and cook until just tender, about 8 minutes or according to package directions. Drain.
Meanwhile, drain clams, reserving 3/4 cup of the liquid. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add garlic and crushed red pepper and cook, stirring, for 30 seconds. Add the reserved clam liquid, lemon juice and salt bring to a simmer and cook until slightly reduced, 2 to 3 minutes. Add tomato and the clams bring to a simmer and cook for 1 minute more. Remove from heat.
Stir in basil and cream (or half-and-half). Add the pasta and toss to coat with the sauce. Garnish with more basil, if desired.
Fresh or frozen chopped clams from the seafood department are an underappreciated convenience. Compared to canned, they have a larger clam-to-liquid ratio and are lower in sodium. If you use canned, opt for whole baby clams (they're similar in size to the ones found in the seafood department). All clams get a sustainable rating from Seafood Watch.

If you follow Life As A Strawberry, you’ve probably heard me talk a lot about The SSBP. I started it way back in 2013, pulling together a handful of bloggers who agreed we had a responsibility to use our online platform to promote responsible food choices.
As food bloggers, we talk about food every day – and it’s important that we also talk about where that food comes from.
Today, the SSBP is a certified nonprofit organization, hosting a brand new conference for food bloggers (which, um, you should all come to) this June in New Orleans, and has grown to include nearly 30 active food bloggers and a dozen business and nonprofit partners.
I’m so proud of the work we’ve done, and I’m so excited to see what the future holds!
I often get asked about a single “best” action someone can take to support sustainable seafood, but the truth is there are a lot of grey areas.
There are differences between every fishery and we need to take those differences into account in order to make the best choices. Fortunately, we work with some amazing groups that are making that information a lot more accessible.
I recommend downloading the Monterey Bay Seafood Watch App (FREE, Apple & Android) or the new Audubon Gulf United For Lasting Fisheries (GULF) app (FREE, Apple & Android). Both compile the latest research and third-party certification information to rate different species based on where and how they were harvested.
Pull out the app at the fish counter to double check that you’re making a sustainable choice – it just takes a few seconds and can make a big difference.
But let me tell you about this recipe! It’s easy, it’s total comfort food, and it’s made with Wild American Gulf Shrimp (huzzah!) It comes together in about half an hour, and also there is wine and cheese.
It’s the perfect easy weeknight dish, but it’s elegant enough for a date night or dinner party. Dress it up with any veggies you have on hand – I love to add peas, asparagus, broccoli, or even tomatoes – or keep it simple for a classic, creamy shrimp Alfredo.

White Sauce Pasta Recipe – Creamy Garlic Pasta In White Sauce - Indian Vegetarian
White sauce pasta recipe with step by step pictures and video. My daughter loves penne pasta in creamy white sauce (bechamel sauce) than red sauce. So I made this Indian vegetarian, creamy garlic flavored white sauce pasta at home for our breakfast yesterday. Basic white sauce can be prepared with 3 major ingredients - butter, all purpose flour and milk. It makes the white sauce thick and rich without cream. Garlic and Oregano is used to give a nice Italian flavor. So never attempt this recipe without these ingredients. Original Italian white sauce pasta calls for using heavy cream instead of milk. But I used very simple and easily available ingredients in this recipe.
I referred the terrace kitchen YouTube video for this recipe. It came out really well. To make white sauce pasta more colorful and healthy, we can add vegetables like sweet corn, carrot, broccoli, mushroom etc. After trying this recipe, I learnt the knack of making white sauce without lumps. Yes, the secret is to add more butter and milk than maida. I have also used cheese slice to make the sauce more creamy. But adding cheese is optional. You can use it if your kids like it. Even though this dish is high in calories, its a tasty indulgence. You can make and enjoy it once in a while. If you want to make a low calorie version, you can use olive oil instead of butter and skip cheese.
Lets see how to make penne pasta in white sauce with step by step pictures and video.
Recently I got a herb grinder from FLINTSTOP online. You can find many useful and technologically advanced cool gadgets for the entire house. They also provide Corporate Gifting for different multinationals along with their company logo and customization as per the requirements. I used this herb grinder for garnishing pasta with oregano and dried basil. I loved this gadget. I am planning to use it in my South Indian cooking as well. You can find the picture of the herb grinder below.

How to Make Creamy Garlic Pasta:
The cooking process of this creamy garlic pasta is pretty quick and easy. Here's how I make this pasta dish:
- First, I cooked the pasta until al dente according to the product instructions.
- Second, I cooked the sauce base. This process should take less than 10 minutes.
- Third, I added the cooked pasta, parmesan cheese into the pan and stirred to combine. Then serve and enjoy.
You can keep leftover pasta in the fridge for 2-3 days or store in the freezer for 2-3 months.
I hope you'll enjoy this recipe. Don't forget to come back to review and share this recipe 🙂

+ If you don’t use all your sauce, you can store in the refrigerator in an airtight container and reheat on the stovetop. Stir in a splash of milk to keep the mixture nice and creamy.
+ Kick up the spice by adding a few red pepper flakes to the sauce.
+ If you’re trying to cut carbs, why not try out chickpea pasta noodles? It’s a high protein, lower carb, gluten-free alternative to traditional pasta. Get your hands on some here.

White sauce pasta recipe | how to make italian style garlic white sauce pasta recipe
Italian style garlic white sauce pasta recipe step by step with pictures, in this italian recipe boiled penne pasta will be cooked in a delicious creamy white sauce, basically prepared with butter, a little flour, cold milk and little spice like pepper and nutmeg powder.
Italian food is incomplete without herbs so to get the authentic taste of Italian pasta, oregano, basil or parsley are must used ingredients. My version of this pasta is a veg pasta recipe, where garlic has been used in a different way to make it more scrumptious. That’s why I describe as a garlic white sauce pasta recipe too.
Though garlic doesn’t have much use in authentic Italian white pasta recipe, because of its overpowering nature, only we can use for a mild flavor. That’s why, here I’ve used a little amount of finely chopped garlic to enhance its taste. However, I retain the same taste as Italian cuisine does.
This white pasta is very popular among kids, as even it can be a very good tiffin idea for kids in school. Not only kids, we elders who love Italian food, also have immense love towards pasta. Among delicious and quick dinner ideas this pasta can be a great treat for all pasta lovers.
For making this italian style garlic white sauce pasta recipe, I used durum wheat penne pasta. You can also use whole wheat penne pasta from any brand for making this pasta recipe. Only you have to be more careful while boiling the pasta in water. Because pasta from different brands take less or more time to perfectly cooked. As for me, it takes about 10 mins to perfectly boil. But don’t be afraid of, I’ll share my trick to solve the problem and easily you’ll be able to prepare this pasta recipe.
And my trick in this recipe is when water starts boiling then only put the pasta in water and cook it till 4-5 mins on high flame. After 5 mins keep checking it’s perfectly boiled or not by removing one pasta and try to cut it with a spoon or fork. When you can cut it easily that indicates the pasta is perfectly cooked. Once it perfectly cooked removed from the heat and strain the water immediately to prevent it from overcooking.
I’ve used three herbs here, to get the exact taste like an Italian pasta recipe. Those herbs are commonly used in Italian cuisine i.e, parsley, oregano, and basil. And I’ve prepared a seasoning with these three main Italian herbs along with little garlic. And that is the top secret of today’s recipe. To know, how did I prepare this seasoning, you have to go through my italian style garlic white sauce pasta recipe described below.
Do you know the making of Italian creamy white sauce? They use cold milk or the milk straight from the refrigerator to prevent forming lumps. Yes, hot milk or milk at room temperature can create the lump in your creamy white sauce recipe. In Italian cuisine, three ingredients are must used, i.e, cold milk, nutmeg powder, and white pepper as I told first. This delicious creamy white sauce is used for making white sauce pasta in Italy and France and it’s called béchamel sauce in french.
Pasta is itself not healthy as it’s prepared from all purpose flour which is high in carbs. Especially this italian white sauce pasta is not healthy compared to red sauce pasta. Because first of all, like other italian recipes cheese is must in this recipe too. Apart from that lots of butter is used with all purpose flour and milk for making this white creamy béchamel sauce. And using of cheese, butter and milk together make it rich, contains higher fat contents moreover that it’s high in calories. Though it’s delicious but we could not say white sauce pasta is good for health. To get health benefits from you may use dairy free product in this recipe as vegan and jain people do.

How to Make a White Sauce For Pasta
To make a vegan white pasta sauce, we used a base of cashews because they yield a creamy texture and neutral flavor.
They’re added to a small blender with garlic for zing and nutritional yeast for cheesiness. Salt enhances all the flavors and water or almond milk is added to thin into a pourable sauce.
Then the sauce gets poured over the veggies and pasta and the mixture is tossed until combined. Then the slow-roasted tomatoes are gently stirred in. The result is a colorful vegan white pasta filled with fresh summer veggies!
Finally, we like to garnish with fresh herbs (such as basil or parsley), vegan parmesan cheese, and an extra sprinkle of red pepper flake!
We hope you LOVE this creamy white pasta! It’s:
It’s delicious served on its own or alongside salads, veggies, or Italian-inspired dishes! We think it would pair especially well with our Chickpea Caesar Salad, Lemony Arugula Salad, and/or Best Vegan Meatballs.
Creamy White Sauce Pasta
Pasta is all time favorite for many kids! My kids love to have pasta even everyday for their lunch. But I make it once a week for their lunch box. But always Pasta tastes awesome when served hot. I usually make Indian Style Masala Pasta and Basil Pesto Pasta and also Avocado Pesto Pasta. But once I made white sauce pasta and kids loved it so much that they keep asking for more white pasta.
What is White Sauce?
White sauce is basically butter with all purpose flour cooked with milk and enhanced with cheese. The whole sauce when cooked in low flame with patience will have their beautiful white color and creamy texture. If we are concerned with the usage of maida (all purpose flour), we can alternate with besan (gram flour) or Wheat Flour. I have tried many times with wheat flour and it didn’t change any taste or flavor. Once a while taking a tablespoon of maida will not impact much. So We can make it rarely with maida.
What type of Pasta to use?
When I look for White Pasta in the web, I usually see the white creamy sauce coated on Penne Pasta. But we can use any type of pasta for this White sauce. There is no such hard and fast rule to use only Penne Pasta.
How to cook Perfect Pasta?
- Always use boiling water to cook pasta. Also cook pasta just before serving.
- Adding salt while boiling pasta makes it more tastier than adding salt later with the sauce.
- Add only little oil when cooking pasta. More oil will make the pasta so smooth and sauce will not properly coat the cooked pasta
- Cooking time may vary with different kinds of pasta depending upon their thickness and shapes. Most kinds of pasta are cooked between 8 to 12 minutes.
- Once pasta has reached the “al dente” stage, turn off heat. “al dente” means, tender but still firm when you bite into it.
- Drain the excess water once the pasta is cooked. Also Rinse the cooked pasta to remove starchy water. We can retain the drained water and add it to the sauce to adjust the consistency(not for white sauce pasta)
What Veggies and herbs can we use?
Veggies are our choice. If we want a white creamy pasta to be perfectly white and cheesy we can exclude veggies. I personally like the green bell pepper, carrot and corn in white pasta. We can also use red and orange bell peppers that will give a very nice appealing look in this white sauce. Also we can use Basil, Oregano, Italian Seasoning for added flavors. Some use even lemon zest to give a slight tangy flavor.
